Aurora
There has been a distinct lack of aurora in Fairbanks this fall. It's been overcast or the aurora hasn't been active. This first picture was taken in late August around midnight, and it is barely dark enough to discern the aurora.
And here is the same night, but with higher amplification on the camera sensor. Actual viewing experience is somewhere between these two pictures.Wednesday, December 05, 2007
Wickersham Dome
Further entries in the easy Alaskan Hike category is Wickersham Dome. The first time I hiked it in June, there was an encounter with vast quantities of mud, blisters that ate Manhattan and a subsequent memorial service for my hiking boots.

So of course I convinced my parents that this would be a perfect Sunday afternoon walk to pick blueberries. We meandered up to the first knee grazing on berries and took in the view which was pretty nice.

Red Green Regatta 07
You would not believe the traffic problems on the major shipping lane that is the Chena River.
Exhibit A: Pirates. With the advent of global warming, they've decided that the Caribbean is no longer the place to be. Especially as the legend of the Fairbanks gold has evidently spread very far south.

Exhibit B: The wee problem with the Kracken and its cousins.

There be monsters here.

Law enforcement is just having a tough time of it.
